The design is rooted in a careful response to its setting. Listening to the landscape helped shape the arrangement and orientation of the new spaces.

Situated within a quiet residential cul-de-sac in Haslemere, this project transforms a 1980 single-story home into a light-filled, contemporary home while maintaining the modest scale and character of its surroundings. The design introduces a sequence of considered alterations and additions that elevate both the appearance and functionality of the property.

A new pitched-roof porch provides a more defined and welcoming entrance, offering shelter and a sense of balance to the front elevation. To the rear, a single-storey extension opens the home toward the garden, creating a spacious open-plan kitchen and dining area filled with natural light. The extension is subtly rotated to face the heart of the garden, with upgraded patios and paths reinforcing the connection between indoor and outdoor living.

The design is rooted in a careful response to its setting. Listening to the landscape helped shape the arrangement and orientation of the new spaces, ensuring that each addition sits comfortably within the established garden and benefits from its natural light, privacy, and seasonal character. The mature planting surrounding the home softens its edges, allowing the architecture to feel embedded in its environment rather than imposed upon it.

The architectural character is defined by a thoughtful use of materials. The extension has matching brickwork to the east, maintaining continuity with the existing structure, while soft rendered finishes to the south and west elevations introduce a gentle, contemporary contrast

This blend of familiar and refined textures enriches the home’s visual quality without overpowering its context. All windows and doors are replaced with high-performance units, enhancing both energy efficiency and architectural definition. Internally, the layout is reconfigured so that principal living spaces now occupy the brightest areas of the home, enjoying improved ventilation and views across the established garden. A discreet roof light brings daylight deep into the kitchen, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere to the newly refreshed home.
