A new, enduring family home, rising from the ashes of a historic fruit farm.
When our client first stepped onto their Herefordshire Farm, they weren't just buying land, they were stepping into a legacy.
The original house had been damaged beyond repair by two devastating fires, offering a unique challenge: to restore a historic farm site while creating a modern family home. The site held deep emotional and environmental significance for the local community. Working alongside landscape architect Kim Wilkie and renowned architect Graham Morrison, we began by restoring historic orchard patterns and the former farmstead layout to ground the project.
Our clients needed a partner to guide them through this complexity. Their ambition was to design something that honoured the history of the place but supported modern life. Our role was to turn that vision into reality, ensuring the new build would be sensitive to local character while performing to contemporary standards of efficiency and comfort.

The architecture deliberately feels as though it has grown in stages over time, creating a composed farmhouse that doesn’t feel ‘new’ in the usual sense.
The new building was designed to sit comfortably in its context, shaped to respond to long views and the movement of light. We achieved a layered, timeless character by using a mix of materials, clay tiles, slate roofs, and varied brick coursing, so the house feels settled rather than imposed.
Inside, the home is centred around an H-shaped plan with two staircases, reducing corridor space and ensuring key rooms enjoy dual-aspect views and cross-ventilation. The kitchen and dining space sit at the heart of the house, designed for gathering. High sustainability performance was central to the brief; with a solar PV roof and air-source heat pumps, the house is fully electric and fossil-fuel-free, ensuring it is as efficient as it is beautiful.
For us, this project was about more than just architectural vision; it was about delivery and trust. As the client noted, what began as a “summer auction purchase” became a spectacular home beyond anything they imagined.
By managing the process from the first sketch to completion, we ensured that every decision, from the spatial arrangement to the tactile finishes, reflected the client’s values. The result is a home that feels generous, functional, and deeply rooted in its landscape.
