A thoughtful reimagining of a characterful mews home, balancing contemporary living with carefully preserved architectural heritage.
Some homes don't need to be reinvented. They simply need to be understood.
For this characterful mews property, our role was to uncover the potential already within the building, creating a home that feels brighter, calmer and more intuitive to live in while celebrating the character that made it special in the first place.
The design carefully reworked the internal layout to improve the flow between spaces and create greater privacy where it mattered most. Throughout the home, each intervention was considered not in isolation but as part of a wider ambition to make everyday life feel more effortless.
Existing architectural features became the basis for the design. Original timber beams were celebrated, bringing warmth, texture and a strong sense of history to the living spaces. Bespoke joinery maximises every inch of the building, including discreet storage tucked into the eaves space and accessed by a beautifully crafted ladder, transforming an overlooked area into a practical feature of the home.

Connections to the outside were equally important. New openings draw natural light deep into the interiors and strengthen the relationship between the house and its courtyard garden, allowing rooms to feel generous, airy and closely connected to their surroundings.
Throughout the project, thoughtful decisions ensured the budget was invested where it would make the greatest difference. Existing features with lasting character were retained and incorporated into the new design, creating a home that feels both contemporary and enduring.
The result is a home that feels light, calm and effortlessly practical, where original character sits comfortably alongside contemporary living. Every decision, from the overall layout to the smallest bespoke detail, has been made to help the house work beautifully for the people who call it home.
