Barkitecture Kennel Design 2026

We are delighted to have been invited once again to take part in the Barkitecture Awards, the prestigious kennel design competition now in its fifth year and a much-loved part of the Goodwoof event, held at the beautiful Goodwood estate.

This year marks our fourth entry. After winning last year’s People and Paws Choice Award with A Whippet in Sheep’s Clothing, we are excited to be taking part again (and quietly hopeful) to continue the streak.

Barkitecture 2026, at Goodwoof

We are delighted to have been invited once again to take part in the Barkitecture Awards, the prestigious kennel design competition now in its fifth year and a much-loved part of the Goodwoof event, held at the beautiful Goodwood estate.

This year marks our fourth entry. After winning last year’s People and Paws Choice Award with A Whippet in Sheep’s Clothing, we are excited to be taking part again (and quietly hopeful) to continue the streak – click here to learn about our past entries.

Dogs in Space

This year’s theme, Dogs in Space, gave us plenty of room to play. Once again, our design leant into narrative, craft, and canine curiosity to imagine a rocket designed for interstellar walkies. As a design studio we are always interested in how storytelling shapes design, even in the most unexpected briefs.

Our entry, ArchinautX, imagines the galaxy’s smallest, fastest and most determined canine space programme, a collaboration between George & James Architects and our four-legged co-director, Archi. The design captures and celebrates the exact moment a space rocket crashes, frozen in comedic impact on its latest interstellar walkies. Yes, despite the dramatic angle of arrival, the vessel remains a piece of elegant, functional design. Beneath the humour sits something carefully considered and beautifully resolved.

Design with Character

Inspired by the retro-futurist charm of Despicable Me and the much-loved Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out, the kennel explores how architecture can find comfort in the unexpected. After all, any landing you can walk away from, and immediately curl up for a nap in, is surely a successful one.

Constructed from stained plywood, the precise architectural geometry of the kennel looks space-bound externally, yet internally we have crafted a calm, Scandinavian-inspired piece of elegant furniture. ArchinautX proves that serious design and silly storytelling can exist beautifully side by side.

Join us at Goodwood

ArchinautX has been selected to be on show during the Goodwood’s Members Meeting over 18 – 19th April 2026, on display in the Bonhams Tent, in anticipation of the main event.

Goodwoof takes place over the weekend of 16 – 17th May, cumulating in the auction of all 17 kennels entries. Hosted by Bonhams, the sale is open to everyone and raisies funds for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, which we are proud to support.

If you are visiting either event, do come and find ArchinautX
