Wellfield Avenue.

A quiet transformation of a
Victorian terrace in North London.

Wellfield rear elevation

After several years living overseas, our clients returned to London ready to put down roots.

Aled and Francesca were familiar faces, we’d worked with them on their previous family home at Clissold Crescent, and this new project felt like a continuation of a shared journey.

The house they’d chosen was another Victorian terrace, full of charm but far from cohesive.
A dated conservatory overwhelmed the rear, blocking light and breaking the connection to the garden. Inside, the ground floor layout was fragmented and didn’t reflect how they wanted to live. What they needed wasn’t just more space, it was better space.

Their brief was clear: to create a forever home. One that felt warm, generous and settled, with space to gather around a long dining table, cook in a handmade kitchen, and enjoy easy flow between inside and out. They imagined a walk-in pantry, a breakfast bar, and room for hosting friends without sacrificing calm, everyday comfort.

We began by removing the conservatory and restoring a sense of balance.

The new rear extension was deliberately modest, enough to bring order, light, and flow, without overpowering the original house. A timber-lined window seat became the quiet heart of the home: a spot to sit, pause, and watch the sun shift across the southwest-facing garden.

Inside, the new plan was shaped around rhythm and use. A bespoke kitchen sits at the centre, flanked by a generous dining space, a discreet bar, and a tucked-away pantry. Materials were selected not for show, but for feel: limewashed walls, oak cabinetry, blackened steel details. Every element was chosen to age well, feel tactile, and support daily life.

The transformation is felt in the atmosphere as much as in the layout. Light moves naturally through the home. The flow is intuitive. What was once disconnected now feels calm, cohesive, and alive to the rhythms of family and friends, whether it’s a lively dinner or a quiet Sunday morning.

It’s everything we hoped for. Beautiful, yes — but also incredibly liveable. It’s changed how we cook, how we relax, how we use the house day to day.”

For us, Wellfield Avenue is a project rooted in trust, not just in the architecture, but in the relationship between client and studio.

There’s no grand statement here. Just careful decisions, honest materials, and the quiet belief that simple, well-considered design can make life feel better.
