George James Office Book

George and James Architects is seeking a Part 1 or Part 2 architectural assistant to join its team in West Sussex, UK.
We’re on the lookout for an architect-in-the-making to join us in our lovely studio in the heart of the beautiful South Downs. What matters to us is your enthusiasm and your curiosity – not what stage of your studies you’re at – and you’ll be ready to get stuck in, use your initiative, and contribute in whatever way you can.

If you can use Sketchup and Vectorworks – and, even better, Vectorworks 3D – then you’ll be putting those skills to good use from day one. Like us, you’ll always be happy to pick up a pencil and sketch away. But it’s not so much about what you can do when you arrive, but about being ready to learn and try new things.

You might not want to work a standard week, and you won’t need to be at the studio on every one of your working days. But we do want you to get the most out of working alongside us, so we’d love you to be here whenever you can. We know that you can pick up so much just by sitting alongside colleagues, overhearing conversations, and asking questions. We’re sure, too, that we’ll benefit from your fresh perspective and different experiences.

Our studio is a wonderful place to be – an old pump room, now clad in gorgeous birch-ply, not far from Midhurst. It’s a little off the beaten track, so you’ll need to be able to get there under your own steam, whether that’s on two wheels or four.

We put equal opportunities into practice in every way we can, and we hope it’s clear from our website that we don’t believe in leaving our real selves at the studio door. If you’ve only glanced at our team photo and decided we’re a team of macho guys, we’d like to reassure you that we’re anything but. And we’d love a bit more of a gender balance. In the end, though, we’re looking for the right person, whatever their gender.
If you’ve read this far and you like the sound of us, that’s a great sign. Now we’d like to know more about you.

So here’s what we’d like you to do: leave a 60-second voicemail message telling us why you want to join us, and why we should bring you on board.
Call us on 01730 239 576 and leave your message along with your name and phone number (but please no CVs, portfolios or anything else – that’ll be for later).
Still reading? We can’t wait to hear from you.

Take the first small step.
