We can talk about light – and its different qualities – at length, and indeed we do. We can be pretty expansive about the pleasures of structural detail, too. So this project brings together two things we’re rather keen on. By leaving the timber fins of the roof exposed, we’ve given the light here a filtered, dappled quality and lent the space a pleasing height and rhythm (picked up and repeated by the fluted panels of the island below). This kitchen is, quite simply, a lovely place to be.

"George and James Architects have created a light, open and sociable space - a new focal point for the house and our family, and exactly what we were looking for. Their management of the whole process, from initial designs, through to planning approval and then the build itself was seamless and efficient."Aled & Francesca
