We are delighted to see our Slaithwaites Road project features as a ‘Real Project’ case study article in the latest Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine. The article highlights the transformative work we have achieved to this home, without having to physically extend.
Due to the awkward plot and the previous extensions to the building, it was not possible to further enlarge the property to achieve the bright and spacious home the clients wanted. We had to think carefully about the layout, to alter the existing house to create something really quite special.
Central to our approach was opening up the L shaped layout, replacing the warren of rooms with open and connected spaces that flowed easily together and allow the light in. We moved the location of the lounge, kitchen and diner to place the kitchen literally in the heart of the home which is now the social hub.
The courtyard had previously been an underutilised space which was hard to access and not visible from the majority of the house. By introducing large glazing into the rooms adjacent to the courtyard, we have opened up the interiors to bring in the natural light and add a sense of space with clear sight lines out, and across the courtyard.
The internal courtyard has been reimagined as a tranquil urban garden. The refurbished space is now completed with a contemporary finish with the crisply rendered white walls and large green walls panels. The grey floor tile continues through into the home, which visually extends the space and blurs the lines between the inside and outside.
‘It’s my favourite part of the whole house, just sitting at the dining table looking out at the green wall’ Madalina, the owner, has happily told us.
We have successfully worked on other properties, where we have transformed the house without the need to extend, which you can read about here. If you are interested in exploring how we could help transform your home, do please get in touch to start the conversation.
